Introduction
The University established its Office of Research and Development in 2000 and the subordinating departments, including the Planning Division, Health Education Division, and International Exchange and Cooperation Division. In response to the requirements of the overall school affairs development, The Ministry of Education approved the Articles of Incorporation of the University to establish the Planning Division, Industry Cooperation Division, Incubation Center, Center of Healthcare Industry-Academy Collaboration, International & Cross-Strait Education Center, and International Foundation Program under the Office of Research and Development.
To achieve the University’s prospect of becoming the most significant university of nursing and healthcare in the Asia Pacific region, we reinforced the planning for school affairs development, coordinated the internal planning of the University in terms of the short-to-mid-term development in the future, and established relevant reward measures and methods to motivate faculties and students to carry out academic research, publish patents, and actively apply for external rewards and subsidies. The Office has been actively exploring cooperation opportunities with domestic and foreign academic institutions to improve the academic status and improve the benefits of substantial cooperation of the University through resources integration, cooperative education, industry-academic cooperation, industrial consultation by the Incubator, and the development of exchanges with peers within the same industries and different industries. Externally, the University has been promoting school internalization, establishing diverse international programs, and setting up its Overseas Education Center to proactively explore the overseas student recruitment market and enhance international cooperative relationships. In addition, we established EMI programs of diversification to offer friendly environments for international learning and promoted featured programs of the University for international export to effectively operate the international education brand of the University, improving the international publicity of the University.
Currently, there are Planning Division, Industry Cooperation Division, Incubation Center, Center of Healthcare Industry-Academy Collaboration, International & Cross-Strait Education Center, and International Foundation Program established under the Office of Research and Development; the operations of sections are summarized as follows:
(I) Planning Division
Based on the university governance philosophy of the President, the Section builds consensus for the formulation of the prospects and goals on the school level and assists in establishing the University’s short-to-mid-term development plans and directions. In terms of the development of R&D capacity and features, the Section assists faculties and students in the application of R&D projects and develops subsidy and incentive systems and strategies to motivate the improvement in and development of the academic research capacity of faculties and students. Meanwhile, we promote IRB education to improve the research quality of faculties and students.
(II) Industry Cooperation Division
The Section coordinates data related to industry-academy cooperation, including the establishment of industry-academy cooperation regulations and systems, industry-academy cooperation between faculties and industries, establishment and formulation of contracts related to industry-academy cooperation, industry-academy cooperation, research achievement exhibition and publication, arranges the design, negotiation, execution, derivative benefits distribution, follow-up management, and patent applications of technology transfer license contracts, applies for patents, maintains relevant operations, R&D achievements, operations related to patents and intellectual property rights, and operations related to students’ off-campus internships on the school level, and develops various incentive measures to improve R&D, industry-academy, and intellectual property capacity of faculties and students.
(III) Incubation Center
Aiming at creating the top-ranking healthcare industry startup service platform, the Incubator markets the expertise and services of the University in the field of healthcare through startup advisory, consultation, knowledge sharing, and other activities based on the development features of healthcare, well-being, senior LOHAS, and biotech medication.
(IV) Center of Healthcare Industry-Academy Collaboration
The Center primarily promotes talent cultivation in the healthcare field, including long-term care education programs, training, and development of certification systems, promotion of industry-academy operations by way of strategic alliances, integrates internal and external resources, improves the achievements and applications of talent cultivation and industry-academy R&D, and assists in promoting industry-academy matching, intellectual property/technology transfer, and other operations so as to facilitate a complete healthcare industry-academy cooperation chain that connects the school and industries, provides a cooperating platform for talent cultivation and industry-academy R&D, and realize comprehensive talent cultivation of industry, academy, and training.
(V) International & Cross-Strait Education Center
The Center serves as the contact of the University for foreign universities of relevant international institutions, dedicates to promoting international and cross-strait cooperation, expands the international cooperation and exchange relationships of the University, actively develops cross-country education alliance models, promotes dual degrees and extensively recruits international students to study in the University to realize international learning and exchanges and stride forward to our goal as an international university.
